As we progress into September, the fishing continues to impress us all. The Gastineau Channel has still been producing good numbers of chrome coho's. We predict that as the tides get smaller in the coming week, the coho's will begin to stack up in holes all along the channel more than they have in the last week with such huge tide changes. Continue to throw flies such as the Dolly Llama, Clouser Minnow, Rockstar, and Coho-A-Gogo. Pink has been the saltwater color of the summer thus far... Try color combos like all pink, pink/purple and pink/chartreuse.
The big news in coho fishing this week is that the creek fishing has officially begun! Coho's have been stacking up in Cowee, Montana, and Auke Creek with the huge tides this week. Try fishing deep pockets, and the mouth of the creeks with flies such as the Clouser Minnow, Coho-A-Gogo, Dolly Llama, Egg Sucking Leech, Hareball Leech and Articulated Hareball Leech. Chartreuse has been the freshwater color of the week... Try color combos like chartreuse/pink, chart/white, and chartreuse/blue.
The trout fishing has continued to slow down, but if you look hard enough you can still find some Dolly Varden and Cutthroats hanging deep in pockets under log jams, around large rocks, and under overhanging alders. Try drifting some egg sucking leeches, small flesh patterns, or egg patterns through these places, and you are sure to get lucky.
As we said last week, if you have yet to get out coho fishing, you have seriously been missing out! Stop by the shop and we will fill you with unsolicited advice, flies, and fishing tales.
Happy Fishing!
